Price Point: Mains from €10 - €20

Slow and steady wins the race and over at Holy Smoke, low-and-slow reigns victorious every time. Serving heavenly meat and veggie plates from a pit-smoked BBQ, eating here is akin to a religious experience.

If you don't know your cow, have no fear, there's a wonderfully informative, giant illustration of a cow on a wall in the restaurant with every cut labelled for your convenience! Not only that, there are cheery lightbulbs, an informal bar and tables big enough to squeeze on your chopping boards laden with meaty goodness.

Warm up the stomach with some small plates, like their sticky BBQ chicken wings, fire-grilled prawns, ox cheek or some veggie-friendly mac n' cheese melts and spicy couscous with pesto and pumpkin seeds. Then for the mains, your stomach better be ready for an absolute feast!

Get messy with some baby back ribs or a pit-smoked BBQ chicken. Want something with a bit of bite? Go for the brisket burnt ends or opt for an expertly cooked steak with grilled onions and mushrooms. There are burgers too, like the classic juicy Lucy, the mammoth king pig or donut burger with two patties buried under crispy onions and smoky bacon. Food coma, is that you?

We visited Holy Smoke yesterday after visiting Glow in the city. Food was yummy. Lovely sweet potato fries with a beautiful free range chicken burger and lovely homemade coleslaw on the side. We were so happy. Great atmosphere. Thanks Mary, Steve and 3 kids.

Cool place, a little bit more out of the way than some restaurants but within walking distance of the city centre. The food was very tastey. The service and staff were very friendy and welcoming.

The entire experience was very pleasant! Staff was very friendly and attentive and ensured that everything was to our taste. Service was very fast and efficient and the food was excellent! We had baby ribs and pulled pork followed by a whit chocolate cheesecake. Loved all of it and we'll definitely go back to try other dishes.

Great BBQ at a reasonable price with excellent service; and with the Maradyke & Barcadia around the corner, it's a great place to get some grub with before friends before going to play some pool or pac-man.

There are also some great pubs like Costigans or The Silly Goose nearby, so it's a solid spot to line the stomach before sinking a few pints as well.

We arrived at Holy Smoke in a torrential downpour, despite just opening it was warm and cosy inside . We were seated at a table for 4- this was great as I'm nearly 2m tall and struggle to fit on a small table.
The staff were friendly and attentive , we quickly had water and wine bought to the table, with the starters arriving shortly after. The sharing plates are a great idea and we were sitting in a pile of bare ribs and chicken bones, wiping sauce up. Mains were equally as good, there was a small error with our order but this was probably more down to my thick Birmingham accent than anything else. It was rectified immediately. All the food we tried was great, can't fault the top service either, we would definitely eat here again.

Great atmosphere, great and friendly service, super food and meat sweats :-)

We had starters and the sharing platter. It was a bit much but luckily we took the leftovers home and could enjoy it the next day. We would go again any day.

Outstanding food. The only problem was we were too full to have dessert. Slow cooked and full of flavour sums it up. Very nice place and excellent service as well.

We'd been to Holy Smoke once before so were glad to see it pop up on FirstTable to give it another go.

For mains we got the Pit Smoked BBQ Chicken. First off, it is a very generous portion as it's a half-chicken and beyond that, it's delicious. It's been smoked over oak and you can very much taste that in each bite. We also had the Char-grilled Prawn Skewers. Again, these tasted great. The prawns are quite sizable and there were about 8 in total. This was just the right amount as it was enough to fill you up but not to the point that you feel stuffed.

Something that I feel sometimes gets neglected when talking about restaurants are the side dishes. In our case, both of the ones we got really impressed. The Sweet Potato Fries were wonderfully soft and sweet while the Coleslaw was one of the best we've had in Cork.

For dessert we split the Chocolate Caramel Banana Brownie. A lot of brownies can feel quite dense and heavy but we were pleasantly surprised how light this one was. It tasted great and was a sweet capper on a very nice meal.

All in all, we very much enjoyed our meal at Holy Smoke. It's got a nice smokehouse aesthetic, the service was remarkably prompt and polite, while the food itself tasted great and was portioned perfectly. Would recommend to anyone.
