Bao Bun Street Food

Taiwanese at heart but with the whole of southern Asia at their culinary fingertips, Baobun Streetfood is putting delicious, cloud-like dumplings on the map, and we can't get enough of it.

Located on Aungier Street in D2, you can spot Baobun peeking out from its neighbours, thanks to its glossy, maroon exterior. It's the kind of place that beckons to you with the promise of home comforts and a warm welcome. Inside it's quirky and informal with a colourful little dining area that encourages everyone to squish in around a table with loved ones. It's cheery and bright with a multitude of Taiwanese paintings and patterns to put you in a buoyant mood.

Now, the great thing about this place is that you can practically build your own dinner. First things first, pick your base, be that a fluffy bao, rice or salad. Then, add your protein, of which there's char siu pork, teriyaki beef, crispy chicken and popcorn cauliflower to choose from. After that, you want to add on some mouthwatering sauces to really make those flavours pop. And don't be afraid to load on the pickled and toppings too! These add heaps of flavour and texture to an already sublime dish.

If you're not feeling super creative, you can always opt for something ready-made on the menu. They're taking bao buns to the next level with bao burgers which are pretty much what you imagine them to be bigger than your regular bao and filled with Japanese-style patties, these are everything we ever dreamed of. The humble bao just got a whole load more wow.
