The Boxty House

Gallagher’s Boxty House, in the historic heart of Dublin, is a warm salute to Irish heritage and hospitality. Everything is made from scratch, from handcrafted boxty and freshly baked breads to its own house-brewed beer. The setting is cosy and convivial, where generous plates meet easy chat.

On the plate, tradition shines. The Gaelic boxty wraps tender beef medallions in a whiskey and pepper sauce with mushrooms, while Atlantic seafood chowder, deepened with stout, brings fresh and smoked seafood and mussels, with treacle bread alongside. Carlingford oysters arrive bright and briny, lifted by shallot mignonette and a punchy horseradish Marie Rose. Shepherd’s pie, with slow-roasted lamb shoulder beneath buttery mash and rich gravy, is comfort defined.

Sides and sweets get the same care: colcannon with cabbage and kale; fried pickles with spicy mayo; fries either simply seasoned with rocket aioli or finished with Parmesan and a roasted pepper, basil and Parmesan dip. Then come the classics, from sticky toffee pudding with burnt orange caramel to a soothing bread and butter pudding.
